1. What data we collect
When you use PureWill we collect:
- Account identification: your email address and date of birth, used to identify your draft and allow you to retrieve it later
- Will content: names, addresses, relationships, and wishes you enter into the will form
- Payment information: your payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details. Stripe may share your email address with us upon payment confirmation
- Technical data: session cookies, IP address (via server logs), and browser type — collected automatically when you visit the site
We do not collect special category data (such as health information) beyond what you voluntarily include in your funeral wishes.
2. Legal basis for processing
We process your personal data under the following legal bases (UK GDPR):
- Contract performance — to provide the will document preparation service you have requested
- Legitimate interests — to maintain session data, prevent fraud, and improve our service
- Legal obligation — where we are required to retain records by law
3. How we use your data
- To save and retrieve your will draft
- To process your payment and deliver your PDF will document
- To contact you if there is a technical problem with your order (we will use the email address you provided)
- To comply with our legal and regulatory obligations
We do not use your data for marketing purposes. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties, except as described below.

We do not use advertising networks, analytics platforms, or social media trackers.
5. Data retention
- Unpaid will drafts: retained for 12 months from creation, then deleted
- Paid will documents: retained for 5 years from the date of purchase, then deleted
- Payment records: retained for 7 years to comply with HMRC requirements
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Erase your data (subject to legal retention obligations)
- Restrict processing
- Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain to the ICO: ico.org.uk or call 0303 123 1113.
7. Cookies
We use a single session cookie (PHPSESSID) to maintain your form progress during your visit. This cookie is deleted when you close your browser. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party analytics.
8. Security
We use HTTPS encryption for all data in transit. Will data is stored in an encrypted database on servers located within the UK/EEA. Access to the database is restricted to authorised systems only.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of PureWill after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
